Marathopolis (500 m..)

Marathopolis maintains the peaceful atmosphere of a traditional fishing village. The fish go almost alive from the fishing boats directly to the fish tavernas - temples of fish tastes. a visitor can admire the wonderful sunset enjoying a cup of coffee with the island Proti in the background. As for those who want to continue their evening with intense rhythms the bars and clubs of the area, won't let them down


 



Gargaliani (10 Km.)

A beautiful town with a great climate nad with a wonderful view of the blue Ionian sea. It has a traditional colour and it is built on a hill 300m overlooking a valley with olive trees (Trifiliakos Valley).It is an agricultural and commercial centre of the area and it produces large quantities of raisins and olive oil. Gargaliani lived under the occupation of the Venetians. Many special scientists claim that the area was first inhabited in the late Roman times (150-350 A.D.) Isle Proti

Opposite of Marathopolis, it was once a shelter for sailors. Its name is attributed to the sea god Protea, the son of Poseidon. This island is of archaeological importance. On the island ruins of Mycenaean or preclassical times are preserved with a wall and circular turret, as well as wishes for the safe journey of ships which are carved on the rocks. The monastery of the Dormition of the Virgin Gorgopigi (celebrated on the 23rd of August), is located north of the sandy beach Vourlia. There, one can see half collapsed hermit's cells, a fact that tells us that this place once served as a place of concentration and isolation of people who wanted to be far away from social life

 






The palace of Nestor (20 Km.)

It is the trational name of the Mycenaean palace of Epano Egliano, the way it is called by archaeologists, which reminds of the narratives of Homer about the wise king of Pylos. Despite the fact that the palace was destroyed by fire, it is one of the best preserved palaces. Here you can also find the ached tomb.



Archaelogical Museum of Hora (17 Km.)

Hora is near the archaeological site of the Egliano where the Homer king Nestor had his kingdom. In the museum there are archaeological findings from all periods of time. There are almost four thousand exhibits most of which come from the excavations held at the palace of Nestor, which was built the around the 12th and 13th century B.C. It is one of the richest museum in Mycenaen findings and this is proved by the wall paintings of the palace and the replicants of the tablets in linear writing B'.





Waterhabitat-Lagoon of Gialova (10 Km.)

It is the most important natural habitat in Southern Greece, it is a valuable stopping place for the migrating birds as well as a reproductive area for the sea tortoise Caretta Caretta. It accommodates rare species such as the chamaelo Africanus. Due to its special characteristics it has been included in the European network for nature "Natura 2000" and it is considered a conservative area in which 258 rate birds coexist which re include in the "Red book" of endangered birdsand animals in Greece



The temple of Epicurean Appolo (85 Km.)

The temple of Appolo is a work of art which Unesco has included in the list of World Cultural Heritage along with the Parthenon, the Pyramids of Egypt e.t.c. It is considered to be the third well preserved monument of classical ancient times after the Parthenon and the Thesio



Waterfalls of Netha (40 Km.)

The valley of Netha is the natural border between the provinces Messinias and Elias. Netha, who according to mythology and as the goddess of waters, gave her name to the only female river in Greece. Crossing the river is a fascinating and risky adventure as well as an opportunity to enjoy the natural environment of Messinia.
